The UAE company, ADNOC Distribution, relies on biofuel and operates fuel stations with solar energy, as part of its plan to reduce its emissions by 25% by 2030.

And the Emirati company announced today, Friday, January 20, 2023, by focusing on the sustainability of its daily operations, to enhance its business and future competitiveness and achieve long-term sustainable value for its shareholders.

ADNOC Distribution undertakes to decarbonize its operations by reducing carbon emissions from the first scope directly resulting from its operations, in addition to reducing carbon emissions from the second range resulting from energy use in managing its operations.

The Emirati company indicated that it intends to install solar panels to operate service stations, and plans to use biofuels to operate its fleet of vehicles, in addition to expanding its network of electric vehicle charging stations.

ADNOC Distribution also aims to use “green cement”, which is environmentally friendly and has a limited carbon footprint compared to traditional cement, in the construction of new service stations.

ADNOC Distribution became the first retail fuel distribution company in the UAE to obtain sustainable financing by converting existing financing of $1.5 billion (5.5 billion dirhams) into financing linked to specific sustainability goals in partnership with First Abu Dhabi Bank as coordinator for environmental, social and corporate governance.

ADNOC Distribution has committed to a sustainability-linked loan sanction/incentive system, which links financing terms to levels of achievement of sustainability indicators. In addition to First Abu Dhabi Bank, the financing includes other parties: Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank, Bank of China, Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, and Standard Chartered Bank.

Badr Saeed Al-Lamki, CEO of ADNOC Distribution, said: “When we reduce emissions from our business by increasing energy efficiency, using clean fuels and linking our financing goals to sustainability indicators, we put sustainability at the heart of our daily operations, which will contribute to enhancing our business’ competitiveness in the future.” and create long-term sustainable value for our shareholders.”

He added, “Adopting a sustainable mix of energy sources to operate our fleet of vehicles and relying on solar energy at service stations, in addition to providing our customers with low-carbon products.”

Al-Lamki confirmed that ADNOC Distribution will implement sustainability initiatives at the level of its network of stations in the UAE and Saudi Arabia.

As the leading company in the UAE in fuel distribution, ADNOC Distribution works to provide various alternative fuels through its network of stations, as it currently provides compressed natural gas fuel through 31 service stations spread throughout the country, including a station dedicated to natural gas vehicles in the emirate Abu Dhabi.

In 2022, ADNOC Distribution launched the “Voyager” green range of oils for gasoline and diesel engines, which are made using 100% plant-based base oils, as part of its comprehensive strategy to continue expanding in sustainable and environmentally friendly products.

Today, Friday, the UAE President, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, declared 2023 the “Year of Sustainability” in the Emirates.
