ADNOC Logistics & Services, the shipping arm of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, continues to modernize its fleet with advanced technology and the latest AI systems to control autonomous driving.

In this context, the shipping and marine logistics arm of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Group signed an agreement today, Thursday, April 11 (2023), with SeaOwl to design remotely operated ships capable of transporting vehicles, equipment and supplies to and from offshore sites. .

The agreement was signed by Abdul Karim Al-Masabi, CEO of ADNOC Logistics and Services, and CEO of the French company, Xavier Genin, during the participation of the two parties in the Emirates Climate Technology Forum, which was organized by the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology.

The innovative design of remotely operated ships reduces carbon emissions by up to 30%, as the ship will be lighter and smaller in size, as it does not require the presence of crew facilities, according to data seen by the specialized energy platform.

Intelligent automation systems will also improve vessel steering and steerage, in line with ADNOC Logistics and Services’ endeavors to decarbonize its marine operations in support of the 2050 Carbon Neutrality Strategic Initiative.

The design of the remotely operated vessels, each 55 meters long, will allow the vessels to be operated from the ground control room via satellite link using the latest automation and autonomous navigation technologies.

The design uses the latest artificial intelligence systems to control its flow, dynamic positioning, remote communications, and cyber security.

Reduce your carbon footprint

He added, “These vessels are another example of this commitment, as we are keen to take advantage of the latest technology to serve our customers, improve our marine operations, reduce our carbon footprint, and enhance safety while increasing efficiency.”
