Saudi Aramco announced the creation of two new positions in its senior management, as part of its strategic plan to support the growth of the company’s portfolio globally.

The Saudi oil giant said it had created the positions of head of exploration and production, and head of refining, petrochemicals and marketing, and the two new positions are scheduled to take effect from July 1.

Saudi Aramco confirmed that the two new positions with executive vice presidents are administratively linked to the company’s president and chief executive officer, according to a statement seen by the specialized energy platform.

Aramco appointed Nasser bin Khalid Al-Nuaimi as head of exploration and production, and Muhammad bin Yahya Al-Qahtani as head of refining, petrochemicals and marketing.

She said: “The two appointments that were created, and approved by the Board of Directors, will be effective from July 1, 2023, thus replacing the two previous positions (Executive Vice President for Exploration and Production, Executive Vice President for Refining, Petrochemicals and Marketing).

Enhancing Aramco’s performance

For his part, Saudi Aramco CEO Amin Al-Nasser said: “I am pleased to announce these positions, which confirm our focus on our business system in both the exploration and production, refining, petrochemical and marketing sectors.”

He added, “Saudi Aramco continues its efforts to transform to meet the energy requirements of the world.. We expect the decision to help enhance operational and financial performance, support the growth of our exploration and production capacity and our expansion in the refining, petrochemical and marketing sectors.”

He pointed out that this comes in addition to Saudi Aramco’s ambition to reach carbon neutrality for scopes (1 and 2) and reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the company’s facilities, which are fully owned and managed by 2050.

He stressed that the company continues its efforts in innovations and identifying ways to improve performance, explaining that the positions that have been created will help us achieve Aramco’s goals.

It is worth noting that Mr. Nasser Al-Nuaimi has held the position of Executive Vice President for Exploration and Production since April 1, 2021.

Who is Mohammed Al-Qahtani?

Muhammad Al-Qahtani, who was appointed President of Refining, Petrochemicals and Marketing, has served as Executive Vice President of Refining, Petrochemicals and Marketing since September 13, 2020, and chairs the Board of Directors of Aramco Trading Company, Motiva Enterprises Limited, Saudi Aramco Jubail Refinery (SASREF) and King Salman Energy City Development Company (SPARK). ).

He is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Saudi Arabian Mining Company (Maaden), S-Oil, Dhahran Techno Valley Company, Gulf Petrochemicals and Chemicals Association (GPCA), Pengrang Refining Company, and Prefchem Petrochemical.

He was also appointed to the positions of Vice President for Saudi Aramco Affairs and Vice President for General Planning, and in 2016, he was appointed as a member of the Senior Board of Directors of Saudi Aramco, and held the position of Senior Vice President for Exploration and Production, a position he held until his current position in refining, processing and marketing.

Mohammed Al-Qahtani obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering from King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals in 1988, and a Master’s and PhD degrees in the same discipline from the University of Southern California in 1992 and 1996, respectively.

Who is Nasser Al Nuaimi?

Nasser Khalid Al-Naimi, who has been appointed as President of Exploration and Production, has assumed the position of Executive Vice President, Exploration and Production, effective April 1, 2021, having been assigned to act in the position since September 2020.

Prior to that, Al-Naimi had held the position of Vice President for Petroleum Engineering and Development in September 2016, and before that he was appointed Vice President for Crude Oil Operations in the Northern Business Area; He was assigned to this position in May 2012.

Al-Naimi joined the company in 1980 to work as an engineering assistant in the Planning and Administrative Services Department, and he obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Southern California in the United States in 1985.

After his return, Al-Naimi joined the Professional Development Program for Petroleum Engineering, to work in the production engineering of the Zuluf, Al-Marjan and Manifa fields, before moving to the production work in Safaniya in 1993, to work as a senior advisor for operations.

Between 1994 and 1997, Al-Naimi worked as an Administrative Superintendent for the crude oil business in the Production Works Division in the Submerged Zone in Al Zulouf, then in the Production Wells Services in the Northern Business Area, and in the Production Works in Abu Ali.

Al-Nuaimi was assigned several times as Director of Product Sales and Marketing until December 2001; He held the position of Director of Marketing Services for the Saudi International Oil Company in New York City.

In 2003, Al Nuaimi returned to take over the position of Director of the Marine Works Department, before taking the position of Director of the Mechanical Services Workshops Department in 2004.

In 2007, Al-Naimi was appointed Director of the Terminals Department, and was assigned several times to the position of Executive Director of Industrial Services, and in 2009, he was named to the position of General Manager of Production in the Southern Business District, before he was appointed Executive Director of Pipelines, Distribution and Terminals in 2010.

It is worth noting that Al-Naimi was appointed Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Saudi Aramco Exploration and Production Technology Company in 2017, and he was appointed Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Saudi Aramco Exploration and Production Technology Company in April 2021.

Al-Naimi previously served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Saudi Aramco Mobil Refinery Company Limited (SAMREF) from 2011 to 2014, as well as in the Arabian Drilling Company from 2017 to 2020.
