Gasoline prices in Jordan for the month of February (2023) were surprising, after the Petroleum Derivatives Pricing Committee worked to increase them by about 45 fils, and fix the price of diesel and kerosene, according to a statement obtained by the specialized energy platform.

Data issued by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources indicates that gasoline prices in Jordan for the month of March 2023 are expected to decline in the wake of the decline in global prices.

The data showed a decline in global oil derivatives prices during the third week of February.

According to the data, the price of 90-octane gasoline in the third week of February reached about $815.5 per ton, compared to its average price in the second week of this month, which amounted to $834, a decrease of 2.2%.

The average price of 95-octane gasoline in the second week was $850.1, compared to $866.6 per ton recorded in the second week, a decrease of 1.9%.

The price of diesel (diesel) decreased from $773.9 to $746.9 per ton, a decrease of 3.5%, while the price of kerosene declined from $835.2 per ton to $796.2 per ton, a decrease of 4.7%.

On the other hand, the price of fuel oil increased from $396.7 per ton to $406.9, an increase of 2.6%. The price of liquefied petroleum gas – used in filling domestic gas cylinders – rose this month to $790 per ton, compared to its price recorded last month, which was It reached $601.3 per ton, an increase of 31.4%.

During the second week of February, the average price of gasoline (90 octane) increased to $834 per ton, compared to $812.8 per ton, an increase of 2.6%.

The price of 95-octane gasoline increased to $866.6 per ton, compared to $844.6 per ton during the first week of February, an increase of 2.6%.

The price of diesel (diesel) decreased from $785.1 per ton to $773.9, by 1.4%. The price of kerosene (kerosene) also declined from $863.5 per ton to $845.2, a decrease of 3.3%. The price of fuel oil increased from $368.5 per ton to $396.7. an increase of 7.7%.

The price of liquefied petroleum gas increased during the second week of February to $790 per ton, compared to $601.3, an increase of 31.4%.

Global crude oil (Brent crude) prices fell in the third week of February to $82.8 per barrel, compared to $84.4 per barrel in the second week, a decrease of 1.9%.

Brent crude increased by 3.9% during the second week of this month, compared to the first week, when its average price reached $81.2 per barrel.

It is noteworthy that the pricing of oil derivatives depends on determining the prices of gasoline in Jordan by comparing the international prices of crude oil and petroleum derivatives during the current month, with a comparison with their counterparts for the previous month.

Gasoline prices in Jordan

Gasoline prices in Jordan were affected by the severe fluctuations in global oil prices during 2022, in the aftermath of the Russian-Ukrainian war.

Jordan worked to move fuel prices over the past year, to counter the sharp rise in energy prices, which sparked a wave of anger from many sectors, led by transport workers who went on an open strike last December.

Fuel prices have increased in Jordan since 2020, by rates ranging between 29 and 36%, with the exception of domestic gas cylinders, which kept their price at 7 dinars.

Gasoline prices in Jordan witnessed an increase between 40 and 45 fils during the current month, and the price of kerosene and diesel was fixed during February, based on royal directives in this regard.

The prices of gasoline in Jordan for the month of February 2022, and other oil derivatives, are as follows:

  • The price of 90-octane gasoline is about 945 fils/liter.
  • The price of 95 octane petrol is about 1185 fils/liter.
  • The price of diesel is 820 fils/liter.
  • The price of kerosene is 620 fils/liter.
  • The price of a domestic gas cylinder (liquefied petroleum gas) is 7 dinars.
