In this regard, the British oil company “BP” stated that Azerbaijani oil exports from the Turkish port of Ceyhan have not yet resumed, in the aftermath of the two devastating earthquakes that shook Turkey on Monday, February 6 (2023), according to the American “Bloomberg” network.

The Turkish authorities were forced to close the port of Ceyhan, located in the eastern Mediterranean, which transports more than one million barrels per day of crude oil, mostly from Azerbaijan and Iraq, on Monday, February 6 (2023), to assess its safety standards after the earthquakes.

And while Turkish officials have reopened one berth serving Iraqi oil, uncertainty still surrounds the timing of when ships and containers will be able to ship Azerbaijani oil exports again.

In this regard, a spokesman for the British oil company “BP”: “There is an assessment of the situation is in full swing.”

Ceyhan port is in service

Turkey had resumed shipments of crude oil exports from the port of Ceyhan after the earthquakes, as the oil pipelines connecting to the aforementioned port began operating later on Tuesday, February 7 (2023).

Azerbaijani oil exports are transported through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline.

On January 18 (2023), the volume of Azerbaijani oil exports transported through the “Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan” pipeline touched 4 billion barrels, according to what was reported by the Azerbaijani “AZERTAC” agency.

The latest estimates released by the British oil company “BP” showed that the amount of crude oil that flowed through the aforementioned pipeline, from its start in June (2006) until the end of last year (2022), has exceeded 531 million tons (3.99 million tons). billion barrels), which were loaded on 5 thousand and 244 containers, in the port of Ceyhan, before being directed to global markets.

On March 23 (2022), the 5,000th container loaded with oil arrived from the “Singjal” station via the “Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan” pipeline to the “Ceyhan” station.

It is noteworthy that the “Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan” pipeline extends 1,768 km, and its operating costs amounted to about $100 million, while its capital cost amounted to $27 million.

Iraqi oil exports will not be affected

According to estimates, the volume of Iraqi oil exports that reach the port of Ceyhan daily reaches 450 thousand barrels.
